ZION Church – Greenbelt Campus Redevelopment
Spring Contracting Group proudly served as General Contractor for the multi-phase transformation of a 102,400 SF former K-Mart retail space into a dynamic Worship Center for ZION Church in Greenbelt, Maryland. Designed by Waldon Studio Architects, Phase 1 encompassed 62,000 SF and delivered a wide range of ministry, fellowship, and technical spaces within a 14-month schedule and $6.75M budget.
The new facility features a 1,100-seat sanctuary, 200-seat family sanctuary, internet café, bookstore, I-Campus technology ministry, a large fellowship hall, 13 classrooms, and extensive admin and support areas. A central circulation corridor connects all zones, framed by a dramatic double-volume fellowship hall with reclaimed wood accents, pendant lighting, skylights, and acoustically treated ceilings.
Key highlights include a state-of-the-art A/V system, soundproofed editing rooms, theatrical lighting, integrated flex spaces for youth ministry, and enhanced security via access control and surveillance systems. The millwork showcases reclaimed wood and onyx stone surfaces, while gold leaf wallcoverings add richness to the welcome zones.
Overcoming significant structural and abatement challenges, Spring Contracting Group managed demolition, procurement, scheduling, and trade coordination across more than 125 subcontractor proposals, ultimately surpassing MBE goals. Acoustic performance was optimized through advanced insulation solutions such as ThermaCoustic TC-417 and tailored absorptive panel systems.
Spring Contracting Group remains honored to have delivered this impactful project alongside ZION Church and looks forward to future collaborations.
